Fleas are parasites that feed on blood, and they are seriously troublesome. Fleas lay their eggs on their furry hosts, be they dogs, cats, mice or rats, and those larvae get scratched-off onto carpets, upholstery, pet bedding, human bedding, and clothes. It can take two days to two weeks for new fleas to emerge and go in search of a blood meal. Once they get a taste of blood, their reproductive systems and cycles emerge.
When fleas chow down on a rodent, and then take a dinner cruise on Fido, eventually landing in my snuggly blanket, it is likely they have just transported and transmitted some nasty stuff to both Fido and me. You see, with flea bites, the skin becomes itchy and irritated, and can result in allergic reactions and skin eruptions, not to mention disease.
