Tarpon Springs Termite Control: The Oldest City in the County

The oldest city in the county
Settled in the 1870s, incorporated before Pinellas County existed. The sponge industry arrived in 1905 and the town filled in around the Anclote River and Spring Bayou with Victorian and Florida vernacular houses that are still occupied.
Pinellas County has the oldest housing stock of any large county in Florida, median build year 1977, and Tarpon has streets that predate that by ninety years. Drywood termites live inside the wood, so century-old framing is a bigger meal than a 2005 block house. And with bayous on three sides, subterranean termites come up out of wet ground looking for the same structures.
Why a historic house is a bad candidate for a tent
Tarpon homeowners tend to have opinions about tarps going over a house they've spent years restoring, and about what happens to the landscaping underneath.
Fumigation works. I'll say so when it's the right call. But it kills what's in there today and leaves nothing behind, so the wood is wide open to the next swarm. Since 2003 we've done whole house tentless work instead, putting borate into the wood where it stays and nothing is known to remove it. The house keeps working after we leave and you never move out of it.
Ask anyone you're considering whether they treat the whole structure or only the spot.
Roaches and ants
Water on three sides and heavy vegetation means palmetto bugs have short trips to make. German roaches take work on both ends. Ants sort out by species.
Regular service puts roughly four to six feet of treated ground and wall around your foundation, plus eaves, mulch beds, and shrubs.
What it runs
Termites go on square footage under roof, garage and porch counted. The particulars of your house change the number, so I don't quote by phone. General pest depends on the property.

Here's the honest reason not to sit on it. A drywood colony takes about five years to get big enough to throw swarmers, the winged ones that leave and start new colonies somewhere else in your house. Once that starts, one colony becomes several, and several becomes dozens. Caught early it's a straightforward job. Caught late, I've seen it take years to track them all down. That's not a sales line. That's just how they work.
