Temple Terrace Termite Treatment: A Hundred Years of Wood

An old city with its own charter
Temple Terrace is the third and smallest incorporated municipality in Hillsborough County, behind Tampa and Plant City, with about twenty seven thousand people. The city sits along the Hillsborough River and calls itself a Tree City USA, which tells you what the canopy is like.
When the University of South Florida opened in 1956 it pulled a second wave of development into the area, so you have original twenties stock alongside mid-century houses. Drywood termites live inside the wood itself, and both of those eras were framed in lumber.
The river and the tree cover bring the other kind. Subterranean termites come up out of damp ground, and shaded property along the Hillsborough holds moisture well.

Fumigation works and I will recommend it when it fits. But it leaves nothing behind. When the tent comes off the gas goes with it, and your framing is as exposed as it was the day before.
Whole house tentless work, which we have done since 2003, puts borate into the wood where it stays. Nothing is known to take it back out. The house keeps working against them and nobody has to move out while we do it.
Ask what is actually covered
Whole house or the hot spot. Most companies treat the spot where you found something, which costs less because it is less work, and leaves the rest of the structure untreated.

If the bugs come back, so do we. You see something during your warranty year, you call, and we come back out and retreat at no additional cost. Keep it current and you can carry that for life.
Here's the honest reason not to sit on it. A drywood colony takes about five years to get big enough to throw swarmers, the winged ones that leave and start new colonies somewhere else in your house. Once that starts, one colony becomes several, and several becomes dozens. Caught early it's a straightforward job. Caught late, I've seen it take years to track them all down. That's not a sales line. That's just how they work.
