Florida Could Become the First State with One Million ZIKA Cases

At Coby’s Tentless Termite and Pest Control, we are taking the Zika virus Threat seriously, and you should too. Something like this has never happened in our fair state, or anywhere else in our nation, for that matter.

On August 1st, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised Americans, most especially pregnant women, those trying to become pregnant, and their partners, NOT to travel to an area of South Florida known as the “Zika Zone”, due to the active, rapid spread of the Zika virus.

In Broward County, there were four cases diagnosed. In the popular Wynwood community in North Miami/Dade County, as many as 12 have contracted the Zika virus, which is primarily spread by “the cockroach of mosquitoes”, but can also be transmitted through unprotected sex.

Out of 200 people tested in the “Zika Zone,” ten cases represent 5% of the tested patients. With approximately 20 million residents in the state of Florida, 5% of the population infected with the Zika virus would equal around one million cases. Translate that to potential Pinellas County Zika virus victims, and you’re looking at more than 46,000 that could be infected with a virus about which the World Health Organization claims, “harms health in ways that science has not observed before.”

This is a staggering number, should it come to pass. Scientists are working diligently to develop a vaccine to thwart the spread of the Zika virus, but they have miles to go before an immunization will be available to the general public. One report on a national network news station indicated it could be 2018, before a safe Zika virus vaccine is available. Considering how quickly the Zika virus is spreading, this is a major concern.

Do your due diligence and take measures to protect yourself and your family in Pinellas County by contacting the experts at Coby’s Tentless Termite and Pest Control.
